To celebrate Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender History Month Cymru (LGBT), The Cardiff Story is hosting a ‘Talking Heads’ evening of inspirational stories.
Lesbian Gay Bisexual Trans History Month Cymru takes place every year in February and celebrates the lives and achievements of the LGBT community.
During the storytelling session, five people will give a 10 minute talk about their experiences.
One story comes from Sandy Collins, whose life and success as a post-op transsexual woman has taken her from growing up in Newport to becoming a showgirl in the USA. Now back living in Cardiff, Sandy tells us about her amazing journey.
Another story will come from LGBT Excellence Centre Wales Business Manager Robert Hutton, who will talk about coming out in Cardiff in the early 1980s, his feelings of isolation and discovering the city’s pubs and clubs while being introduced to the gay scene as a teenager.
LGBT History Month Cymru was setup by the LGBT Excellence Centre Wales in 2011 as part of their work to bring together Welsh organisations, groups and individuals to record and celebrate a history of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people in Wales.
Talking Heads will take place in the Learning Suite On Tuesday 28, February at The Cardiff Story, doors open at 7pm with the first stories set to start at 7.15pm,
The event is not ticketed, but seats will be allocated on a first come basis.
Executive Member for Sport, Culture and Leisure, Cllr Nigel Howells said: “There is no better place to tell a story than at the aptly named Cardiff Story. Each speaker will provide a fascinating insight into their lives and speak about their various experiences.
“The museum will provide a superb backdrop to these interesting and varied stories.
“Cardiff Council actively supports the Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender community and this event is an excellent way of raising equality awareness and celebrating the achievements of individuals.”
