“Cold Weather Payments” Triggered in Some Areas of Clwyd West

The Department of Work and Pensions has confirmed that “Cold Weather Payments” were triggered in some areas of Clwyd West on the 30th January, as a result of the drop in temperature.

Eligible residents who live in the LL20 and LL21 postal districts should automatically receive a payment to provide help towards heating costs for cold periods of at least one week.

Those who qualify for Cold Weather Payments include certain recipients of Income Support, income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance, income-related Employment and Support Allowance or Pension Credit during periods of very cold weather.

MP for Clwyd West, David Jones, said:

“Cold weather payments provide a welcome helping hand with heating costs; particularly at a time when energy prices are so high.

“The Government has made the £25 per week rate permanent, and payments will be made directly to those who need assistance most.”

There should be no need to make a claim, but people who think they may be entitled and do not receive a payment should contact the Pension, Disability and Carers Service, or Jobcentre Plus.
