100 days to go and the Eisteddfod encourages everyone to ‘go bokers for bunting’

Go bonkers for bunting is the National Eisteddfod’s simple message when launching the latest campaign to promote this year’s festival, tomorrow (21 April).

The aim is to create a sea of colour across Blaenau Gwent and the Heads of the Valleys, as we encourage everyone locally – businesses and local people – to go bonkers for bunting.  And when better to launch this campaign than a hundred days before the fun starts in the area?

The flags have been produced with the generous support of The Valleys Heart and Soul campaign, and we’re in the process of distributing the bunting around towns in the area.  We’re looking for your help in this campaign, so please join us and put a poster in your window, some bunting in your gardens, or have our literature on display in your shops, to help us to show the whole of Wales that there’s a great welcome for the Eisteddfod and for the rest of Wales in Blaenau Gwent and the Heads of the Valleys.

Eisteddfod Chief Executive, Elfed Roberts, says:

“It’s very important that we show the welcome that exists for the Eisteddfod in the area which will soon be hosting this wonderful festival, and we always encourage people to give things their own local stamp.

“The support and the welcome shown by the people of Blaenau Gwent and the Heads of the Valleys has been so great, and we’re keen to ensure that everyone who visits the area and the Eisteddfod have an opportunity to enjoy the welcome and the friendship we, as the Eisteddfod, have enjoyed over the past few months.”

Send us a photo of your shop or home – when decorated – and we’ll organise a competition with prizes for the best decorated home in the area.  The WI will be presenting a trophy to the business which has done most to promote the Eisteddfod visually locally, and we’ll be putting some of our favourites on our website.  So please join us and get in touch to order your flags and posters – [email protected] or you can use our online order form – and let’s work together to go bonkers for bunting!

The festival attracts around 160,000 visitors every year, and is a travelling festival which alternates between north and south Wales. Entry to all daytime activities is free of charge for the price of a daily Maes ticket. The Eisteddfod has announced details of the free entry scheme for the Maes on 1 August. The scheme is financed by the Welsh Assembly Government, and details are all available on the Eisteddfod website – www.eisteddfod.org.uk. The promotional campaign is supported by the Welsh Language Board.
