Motorists are being warned to park legally in Ystrad Mynach town after a huge crackdown by local officers. In the last month 100 parking tickets have been issued to vehicles that are breaking the law – a fixed penalty of £30 a time.
Caerphilly County Borough Council and Gwent Police are working together to keep the town centre accessible to motorists and pedestrians alike. But a thoughtless few are spoiling their efforts.
After numerous complaints by residents of people abusing the parking restrictions in the Ystrad Mynach Town, in particular Central Street, local officers initiated the enforcement campaign after consultation with the local council and residents.
Neighbourhood Policing Team Sergeant for Ystrad Mynach, Andrew Massaro says: “Parking problems are a sensitive issue in Ystrad Mynach, we have to ensure that all residents and visitors to the town are treated in a fair and proportionate manner. By issuing the fines over the last month we hope we are sending a message that abuse of the traffic laws in the area will not be tolerated.”
Cllr Rob Gough, Cabinet Member for Public Protection, Engineering and Transport said: “We are currently undertaking a review of the parking restrictions in Ystrad Mynach in order to ensure that they best meet the needs of local residents and businesses in the town centre.”
