Flintshire County Council has plans to eliminate ‘broadband not-spots’ anywhere in the county by the end of 2011.
With that in mind, a Flintshire Rural Broadband event is being held at Northop Hall Country House Hotel on 2 February 2011, which has been initiated by Councillor Matt Wright, the Council’s Executive member for Economic Development.
Flintshire businesses who want to improve their broadband communications are urged to attend the event, where they will receive help and advice from major service providers who will be exhibiting on the day. They will be able to pick up tips on which provider to use, how to make the most of broadband, and also get help on resolving existing service problems. There will also be a series of presentations.
Councillor Wright said:
”This is a very important issue for Flintshire. Good quality broadband helps businesses become more competitive. We aim to be the first county in Wales to be fully broadband enabled, five years before the Welsh Assembly target of 2016.
“This ambitious target is just another demonstration of why Flintshire is a great place to start or manage a business and that’s why we felt it was important to set up the Flintshire Rural Broadband workshop.”
The event will be a chance to see the new broadband installation at the Northop Hall Country House Hotel, which was installed with the Council’s help.
Tony Holland, the hotel’s owner said: “We had recently lost a £70,000 contract due to poor internet facilities. I asked Councillor Wright for the Council’s help to bring affordable, business quality broadband to Northop Hall.” Councillor Wright called in the Council’s Business Development Team, who analysed and matched the solutions available to the hotel’s requirements.
The hotel decided to use the services of AB Internet, who will be one of the main exhibitors at the Flintshire Rural Broadband event. Following its recent significant investment in North Wales, AB Internet recently won the confidence of a group of residents in Treuddyn, who chose the company to bring broadband to communities in and around the area. Other exhibitors will include Fibrespeed, who offer the backbone for broadband services throughout North Wales.
The event will take place at the Northop Hall Country House Hotel between 10am and 4pm on Wednesday February 2 2011.
