400th Anniversary of Village Church in Carrog

The whole community of Carrog in Denbighshire is being encouraged to take part in celebrations to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the village church.

From Friday 17 June to Sunday 19 June a whole host of activities are taking place in Carrog – not just at St Ffraid’s Church, but also in the local primary school and the village hall.

Children from Ysgol Carrog have already been looking at the life of Saint Ffraid as part of their lessons and will spend Friday learning about the history of the Bible.

On Saturday there will be an exhibition of artefacts from St Ffraid’s Church on display in the village hall before the Bishop of St Asaph, the Right Reverend Dr Gregory K Cameron preaches at a celebration service on the Sunday morning.

Vicar of St Ffraid’s, Reverend Bethan Scotford said:

“We are all very excited about this weekend and invites have gone out to the whole village.

“We hope the community will show their love for the church and celebrate with us to show how important the building is to them.”

As well as celebrating the anniversary of the church building, it is also the 400th anniversary of the King James Bible and the celebrations will reflect this too with Bible readings in English and Welsh at St Ffraid’s Church on the Saturday.

The Saturday celebrations will take place in the Church and the Village Hall from 10am to 4pm on 18 June 2011.

The Sunday celebration service at St Ffraid’s Church starts at 11am on 19 June 2011 and is followed by lunch.
