Monmouthshire residents could get improved transport links in the county thanks to £60,000 of funding from the South East Wales Transport Alliance (Sewta).
Monmouthshire County Council has been awarded funding from the Sewta to carry out feasibility studies and further design work on three projects within the Monmouthshire area.
£15k was granted to continue designs for the Monmouth Links project, which aims to improve people’s opportunities to walk and cycle in Monmouth.
£15k was awarded to carry out more design and project development at Severn Tunnel Junction, which will mean improved rail connections to Bristol and London through the Severn Tunnel, Birmingham via Gloucester and the north.
£30k was given to the council to look at the feasibility of park and ride provision on the Chepstow and Abergavenny rail lines.
Monmouthshire County Council’s Cabinet member for Transport and Infrastructure, Bryan Jones, said:
“At Monmouthshire, we share a vision with Sewta that we can improve our environment and people’s wellbeing by encouraging greater use of public transport, reducing car use and getting people active in their travels.”
