New Swansea Campus Backed by Local AMs

Mike_Hedges_AMPlans to create a new state of the art multi-million pound university campus in Swansea’s SA1 development have been given the thumbs up by two local Labour Assembly Members, following an agreement with the Welsh Government to sell land to the University of Wales Trinity Saint David (UWTSD).

The announcement to sell six substantial development plots on Swansea’s SA1 Waterfront to the university, with the additional option to purchase a further nine development plots, was made earlier this week by Economy Minister Edwina Hart.

Speaking on the announcement, Swansea East AM Mike Hedges said:

“As the local AM, I’m always pleased to welcome investment and regeneration in our city.

“The SA1 development is an ideal location for any new university campus in Swansea. Not only is it within a stone’s throw from the city centre, but it will also give the university a chance to build and strengthen links with local businesses and enterprises already based in the area.”

Swansea West AM Julie James added:

“With two thriving universities, Swansea already has an international status as being a city that offers first-class opportunities in the fields of research and higher education.

“Not only will the new campus help to strengthen Swansea’s strong reputation as a vibrant place to live and study, but it will also provide a positive boost to our local economy.”
