Renewed appeal for information – Llanbradach sexual assault

The 19 year old man, from the Pontypridd area, who was arrested following a serious sexual assault in Llanbradach remains in police custody being questioned.

Police are continuing to appeal for information regarding the incident which happened at approximately 12 noon on Monday 4th January when an 11 year old girl was assaulted by a male near the library in Llanbradach Park.

Detective Superintendent Geoff Ronayne, who is leading the investigation said,
“We still haven’t had many people contact us who were in the park the day the incident happened. We know from CCTV coverage that there were a number of people in the area between 8am – 2pm on Monday 4th January and we really want these people to contact us as they may not realise it but they could hold vital information that could assist with the investigation. It’s a busy area that’s used as a shortcut get to other areas of Llanbradach and frequented by dog walkers.

The offender is described as being in his teens, wearing a black hooded top with a grey/ silver back on it. He was wearing army/ combat style trousers that may be camouflage or khaki, and brown shoes. It’s believed he had a black bicycle with him, possibly a mountain bike or BMX.

If anyone recognises the description of the offender or saw anyone acting suspiciously in the area of the park in the last few weeks please contact us.

The serious sexual assault of an 11 year old girl is an extremely rare occurrence in Gwent and I believe someone knows this individual so I would urge people to come forward.”

The young girl and her family are continuing to be supported by specialist officers and Police officers and community safety wardens are continuing to carry out high visibility police patrols.
