Parrott: Continued Fall in Unemployment Shows ‘Sign of Confidence’

Eluned Parrott AM Portrait 2Figures released today show that the rate of employment has grown by 1.3% over the last quarter and by 2.5% over the past year, in addition to this there were 13,944 fewer people across Wales claiming Job Seekers Allowance in December 2013 compared to December 2012.

Responding to these figures, Eluned Parrott, Welsh Liberal Democrat Shadow Business Minister said:

“The Economy is picking up and people are starting to feel it, employment figures are on the up and the number of people claiming unemployment benefit is on the way down, but there is still work to be done.

“We want to see the Welsh Government aggressively market Wales’ Enterprise Zones to attract inward investment and to ensure that young people employed through Jobs Growth Wales have meaningful and stimulating placements which will lead to full time sustainable positions.

“We want to see Welsh businesses thrive and have the confidence to take on more staff enabling them to grow to their fullest potential.”
