Ramsay: Latest Fall in Unemployment Welcomed

Nick_RamsayCommenting on the latest figures showing a fall in unemployment in Wales, Nick Ramsay AM, Shadow Minister for Business, said:

“These are welcome figures showing further signs of economic recovery.

“This news, together with the IMF upgrading the UK’s economic growth forecast, clearly shows the UK Government’s responsible decision to tackle Labour’s budget deficit and make Britain pay its way in the world is working.

“While falling unemployment is very welcome, the Welsh inactivity rate remains higher than the UK average, as it has every month since Labour took power 15 years ago.

“Persistent unemployment can damage an individual’s self-esteem, encourage poverty and hold back economically excluded communities.

“Welsh Labour Ministers must do more to invest in infrastructure, encourage business start-ups and attract and sustain inward investment to create and protect jobs to maintain this decline in unemployment.”
