Wanted Man may be in Newport

image001Police are appealing for information to trace a man wanted in connection with sexual offences in Leeds who may be in Newport, Gwent.

Officers urgently want to trace 35-year-old Gambian national Lamin Touray in connection with an attempted serious sexual assault on a 21-year-old woman in Leeds city centre in the early hours of Sunday, December 8, last year.

Following an earlier appeal for information, three other women have come forward to report sexual assaults by a man fitting his description in Leeds between October and December 2013.

Touray is described as black, 5ft 7ins tall and of slim build. He goes by several other names including Lamin Janneh. He has links to West Yorkshire and Newport in Gwent.

The appeal to trace him featured on BBC’s Crimewatch programme last night and resulted in a number of calls with information. Some of that information suggests he may be in the Newport area and officers are liaising with Gwent Police.

Detective Chief Inspector Jon Morgan, from West Yorkshire Police Protective Services (Crime), said: “We are actively following up a number of potential leads as a result of the information we received from the television appeal last night.

“We urgently need to trace Touray and speak to him at the earliest opportunity. I would urge anyone who knows his whereabouts or who has any information that could assist in tracing him to contact us immediately.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact detectives from West Yorkshire Police Protective Services (Crime) via the non-emergency number 101 or on 01924 334890 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
