Starting on Friday 14th February at 6:00pm, 32 pupils will attempt to cycle the 874miles from John O’Groats to Lands End on spinning bikes in just 24 hours.
In 20 minute stints, 8 pupils across years 10 and 11 from each house will cycle in their house teams to raise sponsorship for Help for Heroes (Aled), Cancer Research UK (Brenig), Make a Wish (Clwyd) and Sports Relief (Elwy). To successfully complete the challenge pupils must average above 9.1mph.
Inspired by the Tour of Britain which passed the school gates back in September, Young Ambassadors from Denbigh High School have organised this challenge to inspire pupils to get on their bikes and promote cycling opportunities in the community.
Ann Williams, North Wales Cycling Development Officer said:
‘Welsh Cycling is proud to support the pupils and the chosen charities during the challenge where it is hoped that even more children will be inspired to get on their bikes and join their local club.’
Simeon Molloy, Headteacher further commented:
“This is a brilliant event and a fine example of our School motto “Succeeding Together – Progressing with Pride”
Denbigh High School would like to invite the community to attend additional fundraising events on Saturday the 15th of February between 10:00am and 6:00pm to support the cyclists and their chosen charities.
