Run by a non-profit community group, Cardiff Independent Film Festival (CiFF) exists to provide a showcase for independent film makers to exhibit both features and shorts.
One of the organisers said:
“Cardiff’s reputation as a major creative hub and attractive location for filmmakers makes it a natural home for our self-sustainable independent film festival.”
The first Festival will take place on Friday 4th, Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th April 2014. This will be a three day celebration of independent film and will be held at Chapter Arts Centre in Cardiff.

In Competition
They will be screening FIVE new feature films and TEN new short films, as selected by their Management Committee. The competition, with five category awards will be judged by an independent panel of experts. The awards are:
- Best Feature Film
- Best Short Film
- Best Actor
- Best Actress
- Best Screenplay
Out of Competition
They will also be holding an out-of-competition short film night at their partner event CHAPTER MOVIEMAKER. This will take place on the Monday after the Festival and will include short film submissions that didn’t make the Official Selection but showed significant merit.
Events
There will be a strong participatory and educational element to the festival. Therefore, in addition to the screenings, they will hold:
CF180 – a competition for filmmakers under the age of 18. The aim is to help develop up and coming talent and give them an opportunity to have their work seen and encouraged.
THE Q&A – successful independent filmmakers will talk about the trials and tribulations of getting a feature film off the ground.
THE MASTERCLASS – Red and Black Films (THE MACHINE, LITTLE WHITE LIES) will be holding a filmmaking masterclass.
THE HOOK UP – will be putting the audience in the picture with this unique networking event, which will give filmmakers a space to cast their next picture and to find the talent behind the camera.
THE AWARDS CEREMONY – five CiFF Shards will be presented to the winners of each category at the closing event on Sunday evening.
