Labour AM for the Vale of Clwyd, Ann Jones has called on Denbighshire County Council to do more to tackle fly tipping across the county.
The call stems from the publication of the key performance data for Welsh local authorities which revealed that the authority was one of the worst authorities in Wales for dealing with fly tipping.
Mrs Jones said: “Fly tipping is a scourge on our communities and damages people’s homes, the local tourist economy and the environment. I am disappointed to see Denbighshire in the bottom 25% of authorities for dealing with fly tipping.
“It is a problem right across the Vale of Clwyd and local businesses often contact me to complain about how it is affecting their businesses. Denbighshire Council will now know that they have a problem and it is important that they work hard to address it”.
The publication, the third edition of the annual compendium looking at the performance of Local Authority services, contains the latest performance data to support the accountability and scrutiny of public services by citizens and by elected Members acting on their behalf.
The performances of Local Authorities on a range of issues such as delayed transfers of care, school attendance, library visits, affordable housing delivery, recycling rates and road conditions are highlighted, as well as public satisfaction ratings for each Local Authority.
Mrs Jones also issued her congratulations to operational staff at the council – services in social care, housing and wellbeing were in the top 25% of authorities across Wales.
Mrs Jones added: “The hard work of staff across Denbighshire is clearly paying off and I am very pleased to see such good results being recorded. The challenge now is not to get complacent but to continue to drive forward improvements across all service areas”.
