Proud students will showcase the best of Wrexham at a ground-breaking event.
Third year students from Glyndŵr University’s Business and Event Management degree will host ‘Made in Wrexham’ on March 8.
The cohort is bringing together the cream of the county, from industry leaders and musicians to sports and social organisations.
Running from 10am until 2pm in the main building on the Plas Coch campus, the event will complement the University’s Open Day and is expected to attract community support and hundreds of prospective students and visitors to the town.
Project manager Alexandra Huffen said:
“The whole team is really excited to be working on this event.
“We know Wrexham is a lively, friendly town with a lot to offer and Glyndŵr University is a great place to study. We want to share our positive experiences with people and help Wrexham and Glyndŵr get the recognition they deserve.”
Alexandra added:
“This is about bringing together the best the town has to offer, so we’re urging anyone who cares about Wrexham to get in touch and help us.
“We will have lots of stalls and activities that show-off the town and prove what a great place it is.”
The Made in Wrexham team hopes it will not only help to raise the town’s profile but also benefit prospective students by giving them an insight into university life.
The celebration provides a platform for businesses and charities to drum up interest and talk about what they do.
Musicians will perform live and current students will be on hand to offer advice and answer any questions prospective students may have.
The group will also highlight the work of local producers, successful companies, sporting legends and Glyndŵr University alumni.
Among them is Downton Abbey director Brian Percival, who fondly remembers his time in the town.
A former student at Glyndŵr’s North Wales School of Art and Design, he is now recognised as one of the top directors in the UK having steered the ITV soap opera to global popularity.
He said: “Wrexham helped me to see the world in a different way. It was a wonderful experience; my mind was opened up to thinking in a new, creative and visual way, something I had not experienced before.
“I have the University to thank for opening my eyes to the beauty of cinema and I would encourage others to become part of the Glyndŵr family, because once you’ve studied there it will remain in your heart forever.”
The event itself forms part of the Business and Event Management degree and was created by the students, who hope it will go on to become an annual event.
Alexandra said:
“During our time here at Glyndŵr we were disappointed to find that Wrexham is often overlooked and is sometimes painted in a negative light.
“We want people, especially prospective students, to experience the side of Wrexham that is not heard about enough. The message is that Wrexham is a great place to live, work and study in.”
