New Area School Approved for Clocaenog and Cyffylliog

denbighshireDenbighshire County Council has approved a proposal to close Ysgol Clocaenog and Ysgol Cyffylliog on August 31st, 2014, to enable a new area school to be opened on 1st September 2014.

The new school will use the existing sites at Clocaenog and Cyffylliog.

The Council published a statutory notice about the proposed closure on the 7th of January.  In the consultation period that followed, the Council received 16 individual objections from members of the community and a petition signed by 144 individual people.

The responses received by the Council were considered by Denbighshire’s Cabinet meeting in County Hall,  Ruthin today. Following a debate, the Cabinet agreed the proposed closure and the creation of the new area school.  The benefits of the  new school will  include delivering  the changing curriculum within a reduced age range of pupils taught together and a more sustainable leadership and management structure.

These proposals were drafted following a review of education in the Ruthin area which looked at sustainability of schools and high quality provision, surplus places, condition and suitability of school buildings, recruitment of headteacher and demand for Welsh medium education.
