‘Patient complaints must be taken seriously’, Says AM

Commenting on today’s publication of draft regulations to overhaul the NHS complaints procedure, Shadow Health Minister Andrew RT Davies AM said:

“While we welcome the broad thrust of these proposals, major efforts need to be made to change the woeful culture in the NHS towards addressing patient concerns.

“It has also taken the minister two years to bring forward these regulations.

“I am disappointed the minister has sought to reduce the role of community health councils, which play an important role in resolving the concerns of patients.

“Thankfully, most people’s experience of the NHS is a positive one, thanks to the dedicated work of frontline staff. It is important, however, that when problems do arise they are resolved quickly.”
