Half Term Activities in Caerphilly

CaerphillyThere’s plenty going on across Caerphilly county borough to entertain families during half term week.

The County Borough’s libraries are holding stories, rhymes and activities sessions suitable for all ages throughout the week, including dragon themed story telling at Abercarn and Newbridge libraries. Experience 17th Century justice being delivered at Llancaiach Fawr Manor this week.  Sit in the public gallery at the Great Hall and find out what sort of crimes were tried by 17th Century magistrates and what the punishments were. The Crime and Punishment Court Sessions are running between Tuesday 25th and Friday 28th February from 10 am, with every session lasting approximately 30 minutes.  Normal admission fees of £7 for adults and £6 for children and concessions apply.  For more information, telephone Llancaiach Fawr Manor on 01443 412248.

Get involved in St David’s Day Activi-Time crafts this half term at the Winding House – make daffodil and leek badges and have a go at designing a traditional love spoon. The sessions are running from Tuesday 25th to Friday 28th February between 11am and 12pm.  Visitors must book in advance and a small charge applies. There is also a St David’s Day Gallery Trail at the museum on Saturday 1st March between 10am and 5pm and visitors will be offered a free piece of bara brith with every hot drink they purchase at the Coffee Shop as part of the traditional Welsh theme. Step into nature at Cwmcarn Forest Drive over the half term week. Take part in the new Nature Etching Trail around the Nantcarn Valley, starting from Monday 24th February.  Follow the trail and gather etchings to claim the Rangers’ Certificate. Help feed our garden birds at the birdfeeder workshop on Wednesday 26th February and the fat ball making workshop on Friday 28th February. The birdfeeder workshop will cost 50p per child and the fat ball making workshop has a charge of £1 – both charges are to cover the cost of materials. Amphibious creatures are the focus at Aberbargoed Grasslands National Nature Reserve during half term, with a Hopping Mad event on Thursday 27th February. Come along and discover interesting facts about our secretive garden neighbours, frogs and toads.
