Gwynedd Housing Association, Cartrefi Cymunedol Gwynedd (CCG) has struck a new partnership with Cyd Cymru to help tenants get the best energy deals for their homes.
Cyd Cymru is a Wales wide collective switching scheme funded by the Welsh government. It’s supported by a number of partners across wales including CCG.
The concept is simple. By coming together as one to buy energy, Cyd Cymru can negotiate better deals with energy providers, making bigger savings which are passed on to the customer. Tenants can save money by changing energy supplier; however by switching collectively tenants can save even more. The concept has been successful in other parts of the UK, and households have typically saved anywhere between £60 and £250 per year. A collective purchasing scheme undertaken in Cornwall in 2012 helped more than 1,000 people save an average of £133 on their annual energy bills. At a time when costs of energy seem to be going up, saving money has never been so important.
CCG Chief Executive, Ffrancon Williams said:
“We will encourage our residents in Gwynedd to make the most of the Cyd Cymru opportunity to save money on ever rising fuel costs. The more who join this important scheme the more everyone will be able to save.”
Darren Owen, CCG’s Energy Co-ordinator added:
“The process is very straightforward as all tenants need to do is register their interest by calling 0800 093 5902 or online at www.cydcymru-energy.com. Energy suppliers will be asked to give their best price to those that have registered to be part of the collective – don’t forget the more people that register; the more attractive the group custom will be for a supplier. Tenants will then be contacted with an offer and can decide if they would like to switch. If tenants choose to switch, Cyd Cymru partner, energyhelpline, will assist with the switch.”
The first Cyd Cymru switch was very successful with over 5,000 people signing up, those that switched managed to save between £80 – £300 on their annual energy bills.
Darren Owen added, “The current registration period for the switch will be open until the 9th March with the period for accepting the offer running from 10th March to the 24th march. So we are urging our tenants and all Gwynedd residents to register their interest as soon as they can to make sure they get the best energy deal for their home. More information can be found on our website www.ccgwynedd.org.”
