Wrexham Council is set to receive over £100,000 of funding to help provide quality, affordable child care out of school hours.
Local Assembly Member Lesley Griffiths has welcomed the Welsh Government’s announcement, which overall will see up to £2.3m made available to Local Authorities across Wales during the upcoming financial year.
The Out of School Childcare grant will help Councils assist families who wish to access childcare before and after the school day.
As well as childcare, the funding can be used to support holiday clubs and play schemes during the school holidays, therefore supporting working parents.
As there are many different factors and situations to account for, local authorities have been granted the flexibility to use the funding how they see fit and to provide childcare provision which best meets the needs of parents and carers.
Family Information Services (FIS) are located in each local authority and offer free advice and information on local services for families and carers across Wales. The service in Wrexham is located in the main library building and can be contacted on 01978 292094 or by email [email protected].
Wrexham AM Griffiths said:
“Childcare is a major issue for many families across Wales.”
“I am delighted Wrexham residents will benefit as the Local Authority is set to receive an additional £100,000 over the next financial year.”
“Although there is still work to be done, this extra Welsh Government funding will help deliver quality and affordable care for children, as well as offering working families the support they need.”
