Cyd Cymru – Don’t Miss out on a Better Fuel Deal

cydThe second Cyd Cymru collective energy switch registration is set to close on Sunday 9th March and we are urging everyone to sign up and get a better deal on your gas and electricity.

But don’t take our word for it, we have spoken to many people who have made significant savings after signing up with Cyd Cymru according to Cllr Ashley Govier, Cardiff Council cabinet member for Environment. He said, ‘Mrs Scott from Cardiff registered online for the scheme after hearing about it from the Cardiff Council newspaper, Capital Times and will save approximately £230. She found the online registration process simple and quick to fill in, only taking her a couple of minutes. She was happy with the information she received about the winning tariff and various energy supplier rates depending on the preferred payment method.’

‘Mrs Scott is currently in the process of switching to the winning tariff, paying on a monthly direct debit with ‘Co-operative Energy’ due to its fixed prices and high savings and told us, “If there was to be another energy switching collective in years to come, I would certainly get involved again.”’

Cllr Rob Curtis, cabinet member for Environment and Visible Services at the Vale of Glamorgan spoke of another satisfied customer, Mr Thomas from Cowbridge. He said, ‘A Cyd Cymru Energy Collective event at Tesco’s Supermarket in Culverhouse Cross in October was how Mr Thomas heard about the scheme. He found the Cyd Cymru team very informative and shortly after meeting the team used the Welsh registration form online to sign up, which took him around 15 minutes.’

‘Mr Thomas’s previous energy supplier was SWALEC and he was on a fixed discount April 2014 tariff, paying by monthly direct debit. Through Cyd Cymru, Mr Thomas found that he could save approximately £374 a year by switching to Scottish Power and he decided to make the switch. Although the switch is not yet complete Mr Thomas has found the overall process excellent. The information given to him was very helpful and the process of switching to Scottish Power has so far been very straightforward.’

Cllr Govier added, ‘These case studies illustrate just how easy it is to switch energy supplier through Cyd Cymru. Indeed, the first Cyd Cymru switch has been very successful with over 5,000 people signing up. The average saving per household has been £155 and there are examples of people saving much more. In fact, if everyone who had recieved a new offer had switched, they would have collectively saved over £1m.

‘We know that the scheme has delivered savings for everyone, regardless of their payment method. These savings are particularly important to households on low income and vulnerable to fuel poverty so I urge everyone not to miss out and sign up today at www.cydcymru-energy.com or call 0800 093 5902.’
