Clwyd West AM Darren Millar has welcomed news that £1.2m has been approved by the Welsh Government for flood defences in Kinmel Bay.
Parts of Kinmel Bay were affected by flooding in December last year following a storm surge which saw properties flooded and people evacuated from homes and a local caravan park.
At a recent public meeting organized and chaired by Darren, residents who homes were ruined by the floods expressed concern that it could happen again and called for improved defences.
Darren is therefore delighted that the calls have been listened to and Kinmel Bay is to receive the £1.2m for the flood defences on the beach.
He said:
“This is very welcome news indeed. Since the floods happened I know residents have been extremely concerned that their homes could be hit again. Improving the flood defences on the beach will give them peace of mind. They can rebuild their lives now knowing that they will have the protection they deserve.”
He added: “Having lived through the devastating floods in Towyn in 1990, I know how heartbreaking it can be to have your home or business ruined. Nobody can control the weather, all we can do is ensure that the best protection from flooding is in place. I know the residents of Kinmel Bay will be as happy as I am that this additional funding has been approved.”
