Labour AM for the Vale of Clwyd, Ann Jones, has welcomed a £5m funding boost from the Welsh Labour Government to reduce treatment waiting times.
Ms Jones said: “Providing a safe and sustainable NHS is a priority for Welsh Labour. I am pleased to see additional resources being put into our NHS to ensure that patients receive the diagnostic tests in a timely fashion to ensure they get the treatments they need within the target times that have been set.
“While access times are improving, waits in some cases are too long and I am pleased to see that the Government is looking to rectify this”.
The funding will go towards cutting waits for diagnostic tests. Faster access to these tests is important as it means patients can start their treatment more quickly.
Health boards will be expected to work together to address waiting times, for example by using some of the £4m funding to provide mobile scanners on a regional basis.
