Looking ahead to Earth Hour on 29 March, Chapter have announced their latest green improvements.
With funding from the ScottishPower Green Energy Trust and the Waterloo Foundation, they’ve busy this week installing solar panels on the roof at Chapter.
The panels are being installed by local supplier Urban Solar and, once up and running, are anticipated to be generating 20% of the energy which Chapter uses, substantially reducing the pressure they place on the national grid and cutting down on their annual utility bills – allowing more money to be allocated towards artistic and community initiatives.
This complements a range of energy efficient improvements being made across the building including the installation of movement sensors and timer switches on lights, automatic tap sensors and power saving devices on office equipment.
Chapter is also in the process of installing double glazing in various spaces across the building and a recent audit carried out by the Carbon Trust has recently identified further savings which Chapter can make.
As well as saving money, they hope to use the solar panels to educate others about renewable energy and a public display will be installed in the Chapter entrance foyer showing how much energy the panels are generating.
Their efforts to make the building greener were recognised at the Wales Green Energy Awards in 2013 and at the Welsh Business Awards 2014 with Chapter being a finalist in the Environmental category. They are also a host venue to the UK Green Film Festival and Council’s One Planet Festival.
