Denbighshire’s Cabinet has agreed short-term options in relation to the facilities formerly operated by Clwyd Leisure Ltd in Rhyl and Prestatyn.
The Council has been considering options following Clwyd Leisure Ltd’s decision to wind-up the company and to appoint an insolvency practitioner.
At the Cabinet meeting at County Hall, (Tuesday), Cabinet Members agreed to the recommendations:
1. To to re-open the Bowls Centre with a view to exploring a future operating arrangement in partnership with the existing bowls clubs.
2. To agree that the Nova Centre remains closed pending an agreement of the Alliance Leisure redevelopment proposals in May 2014 and note that in the interim, alternative gym and fitness provision will be available in Prestatyn Leisure Centre and officers to explore alternative public access swimming opportunities for the local community with other local providers.
3.1 To agree that the Sun Centre will not be re-opened as an aquatic facility operated or managed by the Council.
3.2 To authorise officers to explore further opportunities for operating the Sun Centre by a third party as either a wet or dry leisure facility.
3.3 Note that interim arrangements for alternative gym, fitness and swimming facilities will be available at Rhyl Leisure Centre.
