Community Cleans up Caerphilly Mountain

MountainAs part of the Big Spring Clean 2014, a community clean up event was organised by Caerphilly County Borough Council on Caerphilly Mountain on Monday 31st March.

The sun was shining throughout the day which allowed this popular walking and cycling location to be spruced up by a group including local residents, ward members, the council’s Tidy Team and representatives from the Community Payback Team.
The group, armed with litter pickers and refuse sacks tackled various locations in the area including the summit and the periphery of the car park and collected over 25 bags of litter and waste.

The Big Spring Clean runs throughout March, April and May all across Caerphilly county borough and encourages residents to take pride in their place by getting involved with community clean up projects to complement the daily routine frontline maintenance and improvement works the council already carries out.

Cllr  David Poole, Cabinet Member for Community and Leisure Services said “Caerphilly Mountain is a very popular location for a wide range of groups and individuals.  Visitors to this location are often surprised by the breath taking panoramic views that can been enjoyed from the summit.  Regular clean up work ensures that the perception of our area by visitors and residents is one which shows that we care and have pride in the local environment.”

Mrs Ann Loxton, a clean up volunteer from Bargoed said, “I have really enjoyed helping to make our environment cleaner.  The view from the mountain top is something to enjoy and be proud of”

The next community clean up events take place on Monday 7th April at Tesco Crossways Retail Park, meeting at the rear of Heol Browen at 11am and on Thursday 10th April at Llanbradach, meeting at the rear of Plasturton Terrace, at 10am.
