E-Fit image.Edwards St Dist burglaryPolice in Rhondda have released an E-fit of one of two men responsible for a distraction burglary which took place in Edwards Street, Maerdy on Monday, 7th April at around 11am.

The men claimed to be from the National Grid and they used a fake ID to dupe their way into the home of a 32 year-old man, telling him they needed to check the house following a gas leak in the street.

One of the men went upstairs while the victim was asked to show the other man to the kitchen.

It was only after the men left that the victim realised a safe containing thousands of pounds worth of Jewellery left to him by his late aunt, and a laptop, had been stolen.

They left in what has been described as a white Ford van.

Police have launched an investigation to find out who was responsible.

Detective Inspector Dave Peart, said: “This case is very unusual as distraction burglars will normally target elderly or vulnerable people. Their brazen approach shows just how confident and convincing they can be. We are appealing for anyone who recognises this man to call us. We also want to hear from people who may have been approached by these two men”.

Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact 101 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
