Lucas: Co-operation Needed to Help Make Hightown a Better Place to Live

424px-Ian_LucasFurther improvements upon the impressive transformation of parts of Wrexham will need the co-operation of a Government department, the town’s MP has said.

Wrexham MP Ian Lucas visited new housing in the Hightown area of the town with local councillor Graham Rogers earlier today, and after the visit he praised the major changes which the area has seen in recent years. Social housing in the area has been built by Wales and West homes, replacing the former Hightown flats. Mr Lucas visited some of these homes, plus the local community centre and said the change in the area was “impressive.”

He said: “The development shows just what a difference a considered approach to social housing can make to an area. The former flats at Hightown, which had dated badly, have been replaced by a modern and impressive development.”

However, Mr Lucas also warned that the Ministry of Defence – which is responsible for some of the land in the area as a result of its ownership of Hightown’s barracks – needed to engage with the local community to enable further improvements in Hightown to be made.

He said: “While the new housing which has replaced Hightown flats is very impressive, other areas still need attention. I discussed the ongoing issues on Grange Road with Graham – there are concerns about its upkeep which I have raised with the MOD.

“We need the MOD to work with all of those who are trying to make Hightown a better place to live.”
