A community library in Swansea is turning over a new leaf for 2010 thanks to a major investment.
Brynhyfryd library on Llangyfelach Road is reopening to the public on Saturday January 16 after a £145,000 upgrade.
The upgrade, funded by The Welsh Assembly Government and Swansea Council, has seen the introduction of new books, CDs and DVDs.
A new heating system and new furniture has also been introduced as part of a total redesign of the building.
The refurbishment comes hot on the heels of similar upgrades at the Gorseinon, Pontarddulais and Gowerton libraries.
Cllr Graham Thomas, Swansea Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture, Recreation and Tourism, said: “Recent investments at other community libraries in Swansea have seen membership members and popularity soar in the weeks and months to have followed their refurbishment and I’m sure the Brynhyfryd upgrade will be similarly successful.
“The scheme means local people will soon have access to more stock than ever before at a time when libraries are becoming a heartbeat of the communities they serve.
“It’s very important that we have a modern library network in place in Swansea and investments of this nature complement the opening of the new central library at the Civic Centre.”
Funding from the Welsh Assembly Government’s Community, Learning and Libraries programme is helping to make the refurbishment of community libraries possible.
