According to the experts Monday, January 18 is the bleakest day of the year, also known as Blue Monday.
The day was first identified by a former Lecturer of Cardiff University Dr Cliff Arnall, using the following factors, weather, debt, time since Christmas, time since failing our New Year’s resolutions, low motivational levels and the feeling of a need to take action.
The equation calculates that Monday, January 18th is officially the worst day of 2010, the Christmas glow has faded, New Year’s resolutions have been broken, and this year the cold weather has really set in.
However, there are plenty of ways to beat Blue Monday in Cardiff, how about recapturing the Christmas feeling and let
John Barrowman entertain you in Robin Hood at the New Theatre, the panto continues until the 24th January.
It’s never too late to conquer your New Year’s resolution, and if keeping fit was yours, there are many leisure centres
in Cardiff to help you stick to your resolution.
For those still feeling the pinch after Christmas there are plenty of things to do for free in Cardiff, there are many
parks to enjoy including Bute Park, Roath Park, Victoria Park and Grange Gardens.
For the energetic there is the Taff Trail to explore. The trail is a 55mile/93km way-marked route for walkers and
cyclists running from Cardiff to the Brecon Beacons National Park.
For those wanting a more relaxing time, why not visit one of the many libraries in Cardiff to pick up a good book, DVD or CD.
Or how about blowing the cobwebs away at Cardiff Castle, the castle grounds are free to residents and those who work in the city with the residential pass – apply at the Castle Ticket Office
Executive Member for Sport, Culture and Leisure, Cllr Nigel Howells said: “There are many ways to beat Blue Monday in Cardiff, and best of all many of the activities are for free.
“I would encourage everyone to beat the January blues and explore Cardiff.”
