Monmouth Assembly Member Nick Ramsay is pressing the Welsh Government to investigate serious road safety concerns for pedestrians crossing the A40 between Dixton Roundabout and Leasebrook Lane.
Speaking on Wednesday, Nick said: “Residents have told me that it is becoming more and more difficult to cross the A40 at this point safely and well nigh impossible to cross the southbound carriageway at certain times of the day because of the density and speed of the traffic approaching the roundabout.
“In order to cross the A40 safely on foot from Dixton Road to Dixton Church, Agincourt School and the Wye Valley Walk, it is necessary to make a detour of 1.4 miles to cross the Wye Bridge underpass.
“I have written to the Minister for Economy, Science and Transport, Edwina Hart AM, asking for this issue to be investigated and improvements made to protect the safety of pedestrians.
“Residents feel that lives are being put in jeopardy and that something must be done before another pedestrian is killed on the A40.”
