Police in Swansea are appealing for information following two unrelated incidents where elderly women have been the victims of theft in their own homes.
The first incident happened at around 11.30am-11.45am on Tuesday 6th May at Summerland Park in Upper Killay when the 91-year-old victim was approached by a man who was looking to carry out gardening work.
Once inside the woman’s house he stole a small quantity of cash. The suspect is described as being male, white, aged in his 30s, short and of average building with short dark hair and spoke with a Welsh accent. A white van which had blue writing on it was seen in the area at the time of the incident.
The second incident happened at Carmarthen Road in Fforestfach during the afternoon of Thursday 8th May when the 80-year-old victim was approached at her home by a man who said he needed help after injuring his leg in a fall. When he arrived at the house his trousers were rolled up to the knee on one of his legs.
While getting a bowl of water for the injured man, he made off and it was later discovered that a HP laptop computer and a ceramic ornament of a slipper were missing from the home.
The suspect is described as being white, spoke with a local accent, with dark brown short hair shaved on the back and sides.
Detective Inspector Mark Kavanagh of Swansea CID said: “These are despicable incidents against two elderly members of the community who have become victims of crime in their own homes.
“We are appealing to anyone who may have seen the suspects in the areas or who may have been approached in similar circumstances to contact the police.”
Anyone with information should call 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
