South Wales Police in partnership with the Crown Prosecution Service have today hosted a seminar on The Psychology of Sexual Offences.
The seminar was jointly opened by South Wales Police Chief Constable, Peter Vaughan and Chief Crown Prosecutor, Ed Beltrami and hosted by psychotherapist Zoe Lodrick.
The joint training day between South Wales Police and the Crown Prosecution Service was attended by front line police officers at all levels, barristers, forensic medical examiners and representatives from the CPS.
The seminar was aimed at professionalising the way that rapes and sexual offences are investigated and understanding the needs of the victim to ensure they are at the forefront of an investigation. The presentation also provided an understanding why sexual predators offend and how they target their victims.
Detective Superintendent Lorraine Davies said:
“South Wales Police, together with the CPS are committed to improving rape investigation in order to achieve the best possible outcome for the victim.
Staff should be even better equipped to understand the victims perspective and allow them to show greater empathy, professionalising investigations to make cases stronger and improve conviction rates, which will ultimately make our communities safer and enhance our victims trust and confidence in policing.”
