Clwyd West AM Darren Millar has welcomed news that Colwyn Bay is one of a number of North Wales towns set to benefit from £36m worth of regeneration projects.
The schemes are part of the Welsh Government’s £100m Vibrant and Viable Places project. Colwyn Bay has received £12.02m from the pot to make 500 homes energy efficient and to tackle empty and underused properties.
The investment will also fund phase two of improvements to the prom and coastal defence works and improve the town centre’s appearance.
Darren said:
“This is great news for Colwyn Bay and will compliment the on-going regeneration efforts in the town.
“In North Colwyn Bay over 500 homes are set to benefit from targeted investment to improve the property exterior and energy efficiency performance. This project will see community benefits alongside neighbourhood management, including a landlord’s loan scheme and the creation of a social lettings project.
“Many buildings in Colwyn Bay have fallen into disrepair over the years and this grant will help to give them a much needed facelift
“I am pleased the Regeneration Minister has also acknowledged the need to invest further in improving the flood defences in Colwyn Bay, which afford protection to both the North Wales Coast Railway line and the A55 trunk road.
“Improvements have been made to the sea defences in the past , but further improvements will give residents and businesses real peace of mind that their properties are well protected.”
He added: “Colwyn Bay is now very much ‘on the up’ as a result of the investment which has been secured over the past few years and this latest boost will give the town and local residents a big lift.”
