Cardiff Pupils Help Launch Summer Anti-Social Behaviour Crackdown

St Teilio 1Pupils at a Cardiff high school are helping to launch a summer policing operation aimed at tackling anti-social behaviour.

Over the next three months officers in the east of the city will be focusing on issues such youth annoyance, off-road motorbikes, and littering.

To help promote the increased police activity, eight and nine students from St Teilo’s Church in Wales High School, Llanedeyrn, have produced artwork which will be displayed in public areas.

Deputy headteacher James Allen said: “It has been a good opportunity for our pupils to think about perceptions of anti-social behaviour in the local community.

“They have enjoyed coming up with ideas and I think they are very pleased with the final product.”

The aim of the educational art workshop, organised by PC Arabella Rees, was to explore what is considered anti-social behaviour and how it can impact on both the community and those responsible.

The Llanedeyrn-based officer said: “As winner of the South Wales Police Student Officer Achievement Award, I was given £500 by The Worshipful Livery Company of Wales to spend on a community project.

“Because of my PCSO background I decided to run the project rather than give the money to an existing group.

“I was very impressed with the attitude of the young people who recognised different activities taking place in the community which could be perceived as anti-social behaviour.

“Work now begins out on the streets with our partners tackling areas of concerns. There are proactive plans in place between now and the end of August to ensure Pentwyn and Llanedeyrn residents have a safe and peaceful summer.”

Over the coming weeks residents can expect extra patrols in lanes where drug activity has been reported, litter picks with community groups, and additional police presence in Pentwyn Drive to prevent youth annoyance.
