Talented illustrators and budding designers are being invited to design a new icon for the logo of the Cardiff Half Marathon – the biggest road race in Wales and Wales’ flagship running event. An open competition has been launched to seek an original iconic image that will reflect the major fundraising event which this year takes place on Sunday October 17th.
Event organisers are looking for an image that embodies the dynamic identity of the Welsh event that will be used in materials to promote the event internationally on banners, posters, websites, brochures and adverts.
11,000 people registered for last year’s event which followed a route around the capital city’s major landmarks from City Hall to the Bay Barrage. The oldest runner taking part was 76 and the youngest was 17. Over 40 international runners travelled to Cardiff for the event including four from the USA, two from Australia one from Hong Kong and four from Kenya.
Most of the participants raise money for charity with over 150 different and good causes benefitting last year. In terms of fundraising it is the Welsh equivalent of the London Marathon.
Steven Fedor, Event Organiser, said:
“We are looking for an exciting, original and modern design that reflects the race’s Welsh origins and Cardiff location marking the event’s unique standing in the racing calendar. Entries should have broad appeal to both professional elite runners and those attempting a race for the first time. The race also has championship status and will be promoted outside of Wales to attract international runners.
“The winning entry will be used on all materials and the designer will be profiled on the website for one year. It’s a fantastic way for aspiring designers to get noticed.”
People who want to send in entries should do so in PDFeps format, file size no bigger than 2MB, although JPEG, EPS and hard copy drawings will also be accepted.
