Red Hot Welcome for Children’s TV Mike the Knight in Wrexham

A TV knight in shining armour will be greeted by an army of junior dragons in Wrexham.

PCBeebies’ knight-in-training, Mike the Knight, is planning a trip to Eagles Meadow shopping centre on Tuesday, August 5.

The children’s favourite will be making personal appearances at various intervals between 11am and 3.30pm to see his young fans.

And making sure he gets a roaring great welcome are members of Junior Dragons, the junior supporters’ club of Wrexham FC.

A group of members and parents will be there on the day to launch a recruitment drive to find more young dragons to support their team.

Among those coming to see Mike the Knight at Eagles Meadow this week is four-year-old Junior Dragons member Cleo Purslow from Coedpoeth, near Wrexham.

Cleo has been a member of the club for the past nine months after having her name put forward by her dad, 29-year-old Matthew Purslow, who is a lifelong Wrexham FC fan.

Cleo, who attends Ysgol Bryn Tabor in Coedpoeth, said: “Mike the Knight is one of my favourites and I watch him all the time, so I’m really glad he’s coming to see us at Eagles Meadow.”

“I like being a Junior Dragon because I love watching Wrexham FC.”

Cleo’s dad Matthew said: “I became involved with Wrexham FC as a volunteer some years ago, so I thought it would be good to enrol her as a Junior Dragon because there are quite a few benefits to membership. She’s also pretty keen on watching Wrexham FC play and I take her along to games whenever I can.”

Another Junior Dragon who can’t wait to see his hero Mike the Knight is Cleo’s step-brother, six-year-old Harry Robinson who lives with her in Coedpoeth and is a fellow pupil of Ysgol Bryn Tabor.

Harry said: “I really like Mike the Knight and I think it’s great that he’s coming to Eagles Meadow. I’ll definitely be going along on the day.”

The visit by Mike the Knight is the first in a series of popular TV characters as part of a “Celebrity Summer” at Eagles Meadow.

On Tuesday, August 12, Leo and Raph from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will be there and a week later, on August 19, Fireman Sam will be coming. The final visit will be by Lau Lau from Waybuloo on Tuesday, August 26.

In each action-packed Mike the Knight episode, viewers are transported back to a world filled with marvellous missions, castles, dragons, Vikings and trolls.

Mike is an energetic, cheeky yet bountiful young knight-in-training, driven by his passion to help others and, along the way, be the best knight he can be.

With his father, the King, away exploring faraway lands Queen Martha has put Mike in charge of helping her protect the kingdom.

Determined to do his best through comedy and adventure with his rallying cry “Be a knight, do it right,” Mike learns the power of responsibility and how to do things the right way.

Junior Dragons was formed soon after the Wrexham Supporters’ Trust took over the running of the football club on behalf of its fans in 2012.

Children under the age of 16 joining Junior Dragons are regarded as a junior member of the Trust, and receive a number of benefits, including quarterly newsletters and birthday cards signed by players and managers.

They are also included in draw to become mascot for each home game and can go free to certain specified games accompanied by a paying adult.
