The use of e-cigarettes will be banned within the Glyndŵr University Racecourse Stadium from the start of the 2014-15 football season.
Stadium owners Glyndŵr University have updated ground regulations to bring e-cigarettes in line with tobacco products.
These have been banned since the 2012-13 season, when the university made the stadium smoke-free a year after purchasing the ground.
The ban will apply to all events and sports fixtures, including Wrexham FC and North Wales Crusaders games.
E-cigarettes have already been banned across the remainder of the Glyndŵr University campus in Wrexham and stadium manager Anna-Marie Brown said the extension showed the university was committed to protecting supporters’ health.
She said: “The university extended its prohibition on smoking within five metres of university buildings to include e-cigarettes from January 2014.
“These restrictions will be updated to include the Glyndwr University Racecourse Stadium from the start of the 2014/15 football season.
“We made the stadium smoke free two years ago and this latest update to ground regulations will stop the use of both tobacco and e-cigarettes inside the ground, providing further comfort to supporters on match-days.”
Don Bircham, chief executive of Wrexham FC, said: “The ban on tobacco products in 2012 made the stadium a much cleaner, fresher and, more importantly, healthier environment for all supporters and I am delighted that the university has now extended this to include e-cigarettes.”
Jamie Thomas, CEO of North Wales Crusaders, said: ““We fully support the university’s ruling on e-cigarettes, which will provide all supporters with a fully smoke-free environment on matchdays.”
