Lewis School Pupils Celebrate Armed Forces

Group ShotMedia students at Lewis School Pengam have showcased a short film documenting the 1st Battalion Royal Welsh parading though Bargoed town centre in September 2013.

Media students Liam Gough, Rhys Jones, Joss Evans and Jack Nicholls presented a copy of their production to serving members of the 1st Battalion Royal Welsh at a special assembly on Friday 18th July.  The assembly was attended by guests Cllr Rhianon Passmore, Cabinet Member for Education & Lifelong Learning, and Cllr Alan Higgs, Caerphilly County Borough Coucil’s Armed Forces Champion.

Lewis School students have had great success with filmmaking projects in recent years, with the school winning a national ‘film my school’ competition, receiving camera equipment worth £5000 plus a gold Plato-education’s symbol of excellence.  Liam, Rhys, Joss and Jack have all enjoyed the success the short films they have produced in school have achieved and they are all looking to further develop their experience in the media industry.

Cllr Rhianon Passmore, Cabinet Member for Education & Lifelong Learning, said: “This is a fantastic film highlighting the prosperity of a local military parade and fantastic sense of occasion in the community. The pupils have done an outstanding job in capturing the atmosphere of the event on film and I wish them all the best for their future careers.”
