Creative groups and individuals are putting themselves on the map this week – with the launch of the brand new Arts and Crafts map of Caerphilly county borough.

Caerphilly’s Rural Development Plan (RDP) programme and Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Arts Development Team have worked with local artists and groups to bring a week of open studios, galleries workshops and pop-up exhibitions celebrating the creative vibrancy of the area.

The week celebrates the  ‘Caerphilly Creatives’ map, featuring biographies, contact details and the location of a range of creative producers including painters, woodcrafters, digital artists, jewellery makers, photographers, textile crafters, ceramicists and glass artists. It will be available at community and tourist venues across the county borough.

The artistic week got off to a flying start when members of the Mid Valleys East Arts Society were joined by Caerphilly County Borough Council Cabinet Member Ken James to officially launch the new Arts and Crafts map of Caerphilly county borough.

Cllr Ken James, Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Planning & Sustainable Development, said: “I was delighted to meet with members of the Mid Valleys East Arts Society for the launch of the new Arts and Crafts Map, kicking off a week of workshops, open studios and pop-up exhibitions here in the county borough.

“These events bring together creative people from across the area and give them an opportunity to try something new or showcase their talents. I was extremely impressed with the quality of the work that I saw – and I hope that more of our residents choose to get involved in this fun and exciting initiative.”

Throughout the week activities are being held at established venues like Y Galeri and CreativiTea, while ‘pop-up’ venues including Pentwynmawr Community Centre, Rudry Parish Hall, St Sannan’s Church in Bedwellty and Blackwood Miners’ Institute are also getting in on the act. There’s also the chance to meet some of the creatives in their studios by appointment.

The Caerphilly Creatives launch week runs through to Friday 22nd August. Please check the ‘Rural Caerphilly’ Facebook site for further details or contact Gavin Jones on 01443 838632 or [email protected].
