Ceredigion County Council is joining forces with E-on Energy to bring green energy to Tregaron and its neighboring villages.
The Tregaron area will be leading the way within Ceredigion by going green and reducing its carbon footprint. The joint initiative between Ceredigion and E-on underlines the County Council’s dedication to the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions. The initiative is part of the Tregaron and Surrounding Villages Renewal Area scheme which receives funding support from the Welsh Assembly Government.
Tregaron and its neighbouring villages do not receive a mains gas supply. Most homes therefore use electricity, solid fuel, oil and liquid petroleum gas to generate domestic heating and hot water.
The joint initiative between Ceredigion County Council and E-on includes the installation of ground source heat pumps, where the energy is extracted from the ground to provide an affordable and more environmentally friendly heating and hot water system. Such systems are designed to provide controllable heat all year round. Once installed, such a system can help reduce households’ impact on the environment by lowering carbon emissions by up to three quarters.
The good news is that not only is this joint initiative between Ceredigion County Council and E-on friendly to the environment, but it is also friendly on the pocket as it lowers domestic energy bills!
The green energy scheme is being targeted at existing housing estates, including: Maesyrawel, Penrodyn, Maesamlwg, Brynheulog, Rhydyfawnog and Pwllswyddog in Tregaron; Llwyndewi, Hyfrydle, and Heol y Gorwydd estates in Llanddewi Brefi and Maesydderwen, Heol y Bannau and Cwrt y Wern in Pontrhydfendigaid. Everyone living on these estates may qualify without their even having to be an existing E-on customer. The ground source heat pump package will be subsidised by E-on Energy and Ceredigion County Council’s Tregaron Renewal Area Team. In some cases, the subsidy may well be 100%, depending upon the current fuel source and personal means.
To promote sustainability, Ceredigion County Council’s Tregaron Renewal Area Team is urging local contractors, especially those with experience in installing ground source heat pumps and heating systems, who have an interest in being part of the scheme to contact them. Contractors must be Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) accredited. Ceredigion County Council’s Tregaron Renewal Area Team is working closely with Community First, based in Tregaron, on an initiative to fund the training of suitable local contractors wishing to obtain the accreditation.
Residents of the estates referred to in Tregaron, Llanddewi Brefi and Pontrhydfendigaid – as well as local contractors interested in learning more about the work and training aspects – are invited to contact Ceredigion County Council’s Tregaron Renewal Area Team during weekday office hours on 01545 572185 or by email at [email protected].
