Park Road Improvements

Work on an £80,000 scheme to widen roads on Park Road in Pontypool will start next week in a bid to ease congestion around the area.

Torfaen Council says Park Road has suffered from congestion for some time which can be exacerbated at peak times by bus stopping on both sides. Work is due to start next Monday, 1 February to widen the road so vehicles can pass buses when stationary. A pelican crossing will also be put in place so people can cross the road safely.

Work is expected to cost approximately £80,000, funded by WAG and Pontypool Regeneration partnership and is expected to last up to 8 weeks.

To help ease congestions during this period, the council is recommending that, if possible, drivers use alternative routes. Bus users are being advised that .for safety reasons, two stops in the area will be temporarily closed until work is complete. The nearest alternative bus stops for these routes are outside the Civic Centre.

Executive Member for Regeneration, Cllr Richard Clark, said: “This area can become very congested, especially during peak times such as in the morning. This work will help reduce queues and make it safer for the public.”
