A bakery firm has boosted the coffers of Europe’s biggest festival for children and young people.
The Wrexham-based Village Bakery has made a donation of £500 to the Urdd National Eisteddfod.
This year’s festival is taking place in Caerphilly in Gwent next week before heading to Flint in North Wales in 2016
Darren Morris, the Urdd’s development officer for Flint and Wrexham, said: “We are very grateful to the Village Bakery for their contribution, especially since the Eisteddfod is coming to Flint next year as well.
“Every area wherever the Eisteddfod goes has local fund-raising targets. For instance I know that our target in Flintshire is £233,000 so every contribution counts.”
“The Urdd Eisteddfod is the biggest festival in Europe for children and young people. The competitors start from four years old right up to 25, and with choirs to 30.
“Usually we get around 100,000 people on the Maes in the week, and 15,000 competing.
The cheque was presented on behalf of the Village Bakery by one of their Welsh speaking apprentices, Jack Williams, 17, from Gwersyllt, a former pupil of Ysgol Morgan Llwyd.
He said: “I was honoured to be chosen to present the cheque for the company.
“The Urdd Eisteddfod is a massively important event in Wales and is a cornerstone of the Welsh language and culture.”
