Cardiff and Vale University Health Board put out a plea to recruit volunteers and were overwhelmed by the response from the local community.
During National Volunteers week, which ran 1-7 June 2015, Cardiff and Vale University Health Board began a call to action to recruit new volunteers which has resulted in over 50 applications being made to become a volunteer.
Health Board Volunteers not only help out in Hospitals but also in the local community, helping to deliver a number of services to residents in their homes.
The week-long recruitment campaign highlighted the fantastic work that Health Board volunteers do, from Meet and Greeters to Befrienders, showing the wide range of opportunities available to those wishing to volunteer.
Open days were held at University Hospital of Wales and University Hospital Llandough, where people could come along and chat to staff and volunteers about their experience of helping in a health care setting.
Michelle Fowler, Volunteer Service Manager said: “I’d like to thank everyone who has submitted an application form to become a Health Board volunteer. The spare time that volunteers give is invaluable and helps deliver the best possible experience for patients and visitors to our hospitals and in the local community.”
