The youth of Neath Port Talbot will mark the 65th anniversary of the liberation of World War Two death camp Auschwitz-Birkenau by staging a free memorial concert at the Princess Royal Theatre on Tuesday 2nd February at 7.00pm.
Pupils from schools across the County Borough will be performing songs and dances based on this year’s theme “The Legacy of Hope”.
There will be on stage contributions from students from Neath Port Talbot College, Council representatives, emergency services and voluntary services. The concert is part of a series of events throughout the UK for Holocaust Memorial Day on or around 27th January which promotes understanding within the community and how by looking to the past that the act of genocide clearly stems from seeds of hatred and by listening to the voices of survivors we can learn lessons for today.
Council Leader, Ali Thomas, said “Neath Port Talbot is proud to support the international commemoration of victims of the holocaust. It is important that we learn lessons from the past and that we convey the horrific atrocities of the holocaust to our youth and that they themselves are part of a worldwide message to stand up against hatred in all its many forms to prevent racism, discrimination and prejudice in today’s society.”
