A world expert in clinical trials and pharmaceuticals will give a free talk on global drug development at Wrexham Glyndŵr University.
Professor Ken Getz, director of Sponsored Research Programmes at Tufts University in Boston, appears at the 1887 restaurant on main campus from 8.30am on Wednesday, March 9.
Professor Getz is an internationally-recognised expert on R&D and clinical trial management practices and trends, the global investigative site landscape, site management and patient recruitment and the worldwide market for outsourcing clinical research functions.
His research studies on protocol design complexity and clinical research efficiency and effectiveness, conducted over the past two decades, are considered by many in the research-based life sciences industry to be pioneering work.
For more than 20 years his original studies benchmarking R&D management practices, global outsourcing and the investigative site landscape have contributed to sector-wide understanding of these critical markets and improvements in management strategy and execution.
Dr Edna Astbury-Ward, a senior lecturer and researcher in the School of Social and Life Sciences, has known Professor Getz for many years and says his appearance is a coup for the institution.
She said: “Ken is one of the most respected names in his field; we are delighted he will be joining us at Wrexham Glyndŵr for what I’m sure will be a fascinating discussion.”
Professor Getz added: “I’m looking forward to interacting with the Wrexham Glyndŵr University community and discussing the global drug development environment.
“The faculty, students and the broader community will all have an opportunity to explore key questions and issues in this open discussion workshop.”
He will be joined by Professor Mike Rubinstein, chairman and founder of Quay Pharma.
Professor Rubinstein, a chemical engineer and pharmacist with over 30 years of experience in solid dosage form design, development and manufacture, will host the breakfast event, which explores topics including the main difference between the UK and US in terms of drug development, what novel methods are being used to recruit and retain volunteers, and how hospital investigators can better meet the needs of sponsors.
