The completion of the steelwork for the new extension at Ysgol Glan Clwyd has been celebrated, with the final beams being signed by pupils and staff from Ysgol Glan Clwyd together with Denbighshire councillors, who were joined by Ann Jones AM and James Davies MP, and the Mayor of St Asaph, Colin Hardie, to commemorate this milestone.
The £15.9 million development will extend and improve the school site, to accommodate an increase in demand for spaces, as well as providing new, modern facilities. The development is being funded by Denbighshire County Council and the Welsh Government through the 21st Century Schools programme.
Willmott Dixon, the contractors of the development, started construction on site in November 2015. The new extension, which is phase one of the project will be complete in early 2017. Phase two will see the refurbishment of the existing school buildings with the completion set for September 2017.
Councillor Eryl Williams, Cabinet Lead Member for Education said “It is great to see how the new extension is coming along and that the development of the new facilities will soon be a reality.
“It is pleasing to see the excitement of the pupils and teachers as they begin to visualise where they will be based once the development is complete and I share their excitement.
“Together with the new high school in Rhyl and other recent projects elsewhere across the county, both Denbighshire and the Welsh Government are continuing to invest in developing first-class facilities for the children and young people of Denbighshire.”
