Housing heavyweights Brenig Construction, Beech Developments and Cartrefi Conwy ave teamed up to provide affordable housing in Llanfairfechan by building 28 new homes. The works will add new houses and apartments to a developed Cul de Sac in Penmaenmawr Road, Llanfairfechan.
This is one of the first developments of it’s kind for Catrefi Conwy, Colwyn Bay based Brenig Construction and Beech Developments, but the effort itself has been massive. All three housing heroes have sourced the land and taken the site from conception through planning, right through to construction phase. The development of the 28 properties, 7 houses with 2-3 bedrooms, 4 apartments, and 17 1-2 bedroom apartments is due to be completed by May in 2017.
And it’s very good work. Five of these properties will be available at an intermediate rent level which means that they will be 20% cheaper than the current market rate in Conwy. The properties are aimed at people who do not qualify for traditional social housing, but are struggling to rent and buy in the private housing sector. Essentially, housing for hardworking, low-income people.
A development like this comes with plenty of employment opportunities for the North Wales area. And it seems that it’s not just North Wales based firms and organizations on board with this. These employment opportunities are supported in partnership with the Conwy County Borough Council and the Welsh Government – part funding coming from the Social Housing Grant.
Mark Parry, Director of Brenig Construction, said the project was a great opportunity for the firm.
He added: “This is something of a milestone for us as it’s the first residential scheme of this size we have worked on. It gives us the opportunity to grow our own business and to employ local people and give opportunity to the local trades within the Conwy and surrounding area, we are also proud to have been able to give opportunities to several apprentices on the scheme where they can learn new trades and skills.”
