Thanks to the generosity and kindness of staff at Cardiff Royal Infirmary (CRI) and University Hospital of Wales (UHW) Christmas presents have been delivered to over 150 homeless children in Cardiff.
The South and East Cardiff Locality team based at CRI collected a fantastic sum of £635 which was used to buy Christmas presents for homeless children across Cardiff.
The Locality team liaised with the Homeless Health Visiting team based at CRI to provide Christmas presents for three hostels in Cardiff including Nightingale, Green Farm and Adams Court.
Diana Wakefield, Health Visitor for the homeless said; “As a health visitor to the hostels, it has been a delight to see the children’s faces when they have received their presents at the Christmas parties over the past week. Many of the children and their families have very little when they come into the accommodation and the majority are living in one room.
“Support staff who are in on Christmas day will be working very hard to ensure that the children have the best possible time and the gifts which have been donated will go a long way to make this happen. Once again, a huge thank you for all your donations – it really does make a difference!”
Jen Sadler, Team Leader at Nightingale House, said; “We have been lucky to have a huge donation of gifts this year from the Health Board. On Friday we had our residents Christmas party and Santa was able to come along and give presents to every single child there. They absolutely loved it and they were all laughing and enjoyed opening their presents together. We would like to say a massive thank you to the Health Board for organising this and making a massive difference to the children’s Christmas.”
Eleri Crudgington, Locality Team Lead said “It’s been lovely being part of such a meaningful project again this year. This is our fourth year as a locality, and I’m overwhelmed by the generosity of staff. Delivering the presents last week was such an honour, and seeing how the presents will make such a difference – it certainly reminded me of the true meaning of Christmas”.
